Satellite startup TelePIX, in collaboration with optical solutions company LK Samyang, has successfully launched a next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) star tracker for deep space navigation on June 24. The device was sent into orbit at an altitude of 520 km via SpaceX\u2019s Falcon 9 \u201cTransporter-14\u201d rideshare mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The AI star tracker is designed as an autonomous navigation system, enabling satellites to determine their position and navigate independently in deep space\u2014such as around the Moon or Mars\u2014without ground station support. Unlike conventional star trackers, this new device incorporates position determination capabilities and is equipped with TelePIX\u2019s onboard AI processor \u201cTetraFlex,\u201d allowing real-time processing of large data volumes and orbit prediction. The companies plan to verify system performance through this demonstration and pursue further R&D and commercialization for future deep space missions. Additionally, the AI technology will be utilized in KAIST\u2019s active control satellite missions for space object tracking and on-orbit services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
